It is indeed and honor and privilege for me to serve as your host here in Cajun Country. I am excited to welcome all of my shipmates to New Orleans and we will do all that we can do to make sure your visit will be a great one. I have tried to put together an agenda that will please everyone. We will work to keep the cost as low as possible.
On Tuesday: We will start out with a wonderful day with registration and getting reacquainted with past shipmates that some of us have not seen for 40, 50, or 60 years. We will have entertainment in the hospitality room and we can just set around, have some refreshments, visit and tell war stories.
On Wednesday: we will visit the Laura Plantation and will visit Oak Alley Plantation for a tour and lunch. We will then take a city tour of the lake front, St. Charles Ave and City Park.
On Thursday: we will Visit the World War II Museum. This will take most of the day with lunch being served on site. Ships auction and buffet.
On Friday: we will go to Jackson Barracks then to Chalmette Battlefield and Cemetery where we will hold our ships Memorial Service. In the afternoon we will have lunch and will go to Slidell for a Swamp Tour.
On Saturday: freetime to shop and enjoy New Orleans, have our business meeting and of course our Ships Dinner Banquet.
We will be located close to everything!!! The downtown attractions are accessible by street car and most are within walking distance:
River Walk, shopping and dining (everyone will get a discount book), aquarium,
Insectariums and Imax, Harrahs Casino, French Quarters shopping and great food, Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral and Bourbon Street. I look forward to seeing all of you in New Orleans!!!
